Powell Ohio is a great Columbus suburb for buyers who want to live on or near a golf course. There are three private clubs and two public courses. All, except one public course, are surrounded by homes priced from $300K to $1 million. There are many condos, patio homes, and single-family homes to select around the three private courses.
The original golf club in Powell, built in the late 1980′s, is Wedgewood Golf Club, a private club. The surrounding housing community is also called Wedgewood, with Campden Lakes “next door”. The golf course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. and is quite a challenging course. The terrain of the course, as well as for most of the homes, is rolling, with heavily treed ravines. Which is why it’s such a popular community.
In addition to the nearly 50,000 sq ft clubhouse, there are also tennis courts, a pool, dining, banquet facilities and a fitness facility.
There are many styles of patio homes and condos that back up to the course. The price range for these is ~$400K up to $600K. The single-family homes that back to the course are quite elegant and often have finished walk-outs for special entertaining views. The price range for on-the-course single family homes is $800K and up.
The newest private club is located in Golf Village, and is called Kinsale Golf & Fitness Club. The course was designed by Arthur Hills. This club offers tennis, pool, a spa, massages, fitness trainers, workout facilities, dining and a Kids Club Room. The terrain of this Club, as well as the surrounding homes, is flatter than at Wedgewood, and there are fewer mature woods/trees. This Golf Village community also offers a wide choice of condos, patio homes and single-family homes. Prices for all start around $400K and go up from there.
The third private golf course is Scioto Reserve Golf & Athletic Club. Scioto Reserve is located further north from Powell, but still has a Powell mailing address. This club offers an indoor pool, nursery and dining.
Single family homes mainly surround the course, but there are a couple condo complexes as well. Prices begin in the high $200′s to mid-$300′s for the single family homes.
The two public golf courses in Powell are called Shamrock Golf Club and Safari Golf Club. Shamrock is located across Powell Rd from Wedgewood. The Safari Club is located on Riverside Dr, just south of the Columbus Zoo.

Ballantrae is a large housing development and golf course south of the western edge of Dublin. The grounds are designed to represent an Irish countryside with stone walls and sea grass lining the roadways and fairways. Large stones, reminiscent of Stonehenge front many of the individual developments.
The most memorable aspect of Ballantrae is the 15-foot sculpture of three dancing hares on a mound at the entrance. The hares were sculpted by Sophie Ryder, (London England). She was intrigued by the spring mating “dance” hares do in which they stand on their hind feet and ‘box’ each other. At the base of the statue is a wading pond with intermittent upward sprays of water that delight the children wading in the pool.
