Who will your new neighbors REALLY be???

haunted-houseHave you ever lived in a neighborhood where there was a “MYSTERY” house? Most likely it was a vacant home with a “PAST“. Stories about the house were intriguing. It wasn’t just a normal vacant house.

I’m aware of a MYSTERY house although it’s only about 14 years old – not an old Psycho-type house. It was built for the owner, but the owner has never lived in it, nor has ANYONE lived in it. The owner lives in another state, so no one has ever seen him. He’s invisible and does no maintenance on the home at all. The utilities haven’t been turned on for years, so who knows what the basement must be like with no running sump pump. People who have looked in the windows have said there is evidence of critter damage.

For a number of years the nearby neighbors would mow the lawn in order to protect their own property values. Eventually, the neighborhood association gained approval from the city to hire someone to mow and bill the owner. Per the city, there is nothing that can be done against the seller since he pays his mortgage and property taxes. That begs the question as to why someone would buy a home, purposely allow it to deteriorate, yet continue to make all appropriate payments. It’s a puzzle.

Adding to the MYSTERY of this home … and the owner … after 9/11/2001, it was reported that the FBI visited some of the neighbors inquiring about the owner. Oh-h-h, drama in an otherwise quiet neighborhood!

If you were to drive by this home, you wouldn’t suspect anything about its history. The neighbors are doing too good of a job of tacking up fallen gutters and siding. The lawn care company keeps the landscaping weeds trimmed, which at one point were several feet high. I wonder what will happen if/when the neighbors decide to sell their homes.

How would you like to live next to a MYSTERY house? If homes were to have feelings, I’ll bet this home is sad that it never had a family to enjoy living in it.

The Google Toolbar simplifies life.

Here’s a handy computer tip for you. If you install the Google Toolbar, you can easily perform searches on Google without closing out the web site you’re currently on since a new page tab will open for the search results.

A Google search box is included with the tool bar, so simply type in the keywords of the search, and voilá, you’ll get your results. You can easily search maps by entering an address into the search box. There is a spellcheck feature which I find works a little better for checking email messages or my blog posts. Or if you wonder who owns that phone number that’s calling you as a telemarketer, simply type the phone number – with dashes – into the search box. Chances are other people have already reported the number and you’ll be able to see the complaints.

The Toolbar has other features as well, so you can have it show the icons that are most beneficial to you. Once you add it to your other toolbars, I think you’ll find it a handy gadget. When I occasionally use the computers in the Worthington office, which don’t have the Google Toolbar, I really miss it. You might want to try it.
