Do you want fries with that massage?

Lots of companies are trying to think outside the box to gain new business in these tougher times. A couple days ago I received a large, pretty postcard from a company that certainly should be commended for “trying” a new approach by targeting Realtors®.

The headline of the card read, “Real Estate Market Got You Down?” Nearby was a graphic of a For Sale/Foreclosure yard sign. The middle of the card read, “Thinking of leaving the real estate field? Don’t go back to a 9-5 job. Start a new career in Massage Therapy or Acupuncture.”

Say what !!!

Well … I AM a full-service Realtor® … but giving massages to my clients????

Uh-h-h-h … don’t think I’ll be doing that. Sorry.

But what better way to demonstrat to clients just how relaxing their new home can be by offering them a full Swedish massage in it?

After a long hard day looking at houses, they may not buy the property, but will shell out a few bucks for a massage.

And because you can use the houses that you are selling, the overheads will always be low. Everybody wins.

  2. “Shine”: Relaxing after a day of viewing homes … Yes. A “few bucks” for a massage covering the real estate overhead … No way does a FEW bucks cover that.

  3. Well, as a VERY happy client of yours, I can say that it would be almost impossible to think of how you could have done a better job for us… Until now!

Maybe not by you, yourself, but having a Massage Therapist on staff during the rough days of price negotiation! Just a thought.

  4. Brian, thanks for not asking ME to do it. I’ll have to check the prices – we can’t provide “gifts” over $25.

Maybe, I’ll just have you lay down and I’ll walk on your back. In the meantime, go sit in your parents’ spa. ;-)

  5. That’s too funny. Maybe you could sell massages to other agents in the office. That’d be great if I could walk in our office and get a massage after a long day!

I’m not too surprised they would target a high turnover industry like real estate though, I know my mailing list has been dwindling down the past few months because so many people have left real estate altogether.

  6. Chelle … now think about that … selling something or anything to other agents … when so many are pinching pennies!
