It’s time for the Woollybear’s prediction

Tomorrow (Oct 5) is the big day in Vermilion for the Fox 8 Woollybear Festival. It starts at 9 AM and ends at 5 PM with the final winter prediction from the little crawler. The severity of the winter is predicted by the width of the black bands.

I wrote about this little caterpillar last year when Marshall McPeek, NBC4i, talked about it in a weather report. He put me in touch with the Vermilion web site. You can have fun reading everything you ever wanted to know about this little guy when you click on the Woollybear Festival link above.

  1. Elaine I lived outside of NE Ohio for decades and every fall I remembered Dick Goddard of Fox and his wooly bear campaign. I grew up with him (he is a local weatherman here) and that is his ‘brand’ to me lol. I haven’t seen a wooly bear in soo many years!

  2. As a kid, I remember them being around all the time. I haven’t seen one for years, either. Wonder why?

Oh wow. I remember seeing those as well. Now I’ll have to go look and see if I can find some.

  4. Moni, be sure to let Carole and I know if you see any. Maybe it’s all those pesticides that people use now that have been the demise of the woollybear.
