Birding temporarily replaces real estate business

I took advantage of today’s sunny day to take exterior photos of the new listing near Hoover Reservoir that I mentioned in yesterday’s post. It’s a heavily wooded, ravine lot and the owner’s have many bird feeders around the 3 acres.

To get a good shot of the back of the home, I had to go to the other side of the ravine in order to get the entire home in the camera’s frame. (It’s a big home). I had prepared for this by wearing layers of winter clothing and my boots to navigate the snow.

As I was standing in the midst of the brambles, I heard quite a bit of chatter from all the birds overhead. Then there was silence! At that point I saw a small falcon swooping around the ravine, frightening all the song birds.

I tried to capture a photo, but the falcon flew too fast. As I watched it fly, I noticed in a nearby thicket, were 6 male Cardinals. I’ve not seen so many Cardinals in such a small space. They were gorgeous! I had to use the zoom setting to avoid frightening them away, so the photo isn’t as clear as I would like.

  1. How beautiful is that! I don’t think I have ever seen six cardinals at once…ever! How wonderful! And a falcon to boot! I bet you go back soon! my only bird news is seeing a hawk similar to the one I photo’d last week…this time it was on a light pole….and I saw it while driving. Cardinals are amazing look how they brighten up that tree! Awesome!

  2. I was so excited when I saw them. There are so many bird feeders around this home, that there are just gobs of all kinds of birds. I loved listening to the variety of songs while I was taking photos.

And the deer tracks! They were all over the place!

  3. I have been looking at real estate around the Hoover ( my daughter and son-in-law may be purchasing property there ) and have enjoyed your postings and pictures. You seem quite unique from most realtors! I like your photos of the birds, etc. since I am a gardener and nature lover! I will visit your website just to see what is available along the Hoover.

  4. LOL … with 4-5,ooo agents locally, we have to do whatever we can to stand out from the ordinary. Glad you’re enjoying the birds and nature.
