One of the exciting things about working throughout southern Delaware County is that the terrain is always changing. This is such a fast-growing area of the county, that new construction can all of a sudden appear.
I go up and down Liberty Rd all the time.
Seemingly overnight construction has begun on the new park, to be called Havener Park. The 94-acres of land was donated to Liberty Township by Phyllis 
Havener and her family. It will include several ball fields and a picnic shelter.
The land is located just east of the intersection of Ford Rd and Liberty Rd. This area is west of Olentangy River Road (Rt 315).
I spoke briefly with a man who was repairing one of the big construction machines. He said they’re trying to get the roads in before winter. It’s a 
lot of mud now, but the stakes were out and a small pond had been dug. The park is scheduled to open sometime in 2008.
Just south of this area will be another park called Deer Haven Preserve (to the right of the treeline in this photo). This 97 acres will be a nature center and bird sanctuary. It appears that work is just beginning on the entrance road to that part of the total park area as well.
It’ll be fun to watch a new development that doesn’t consist of a bunch of cookie-cutter homes or yet another big-box store.
Nature, birds and the sounds of families and children … I like that type of development.
