In February I wrote a post about how “glamorous” this job is. In that post, I described the difficulties I had getting a yard sign out of 3-feet of frozen snow in sub-zero wind chill.
This post is the Spring version of why being a Realtor® is such a glamorous job.
I was really looking forward to this holiday weekend to be able to get some work done around my home. I had stopped by the garden center on the way home one evening to buy several flats of annual flowers. I had even “X’d” the two days on my calendar. I haven’t been able to work in my yard yet this spring, and was looking forward to the mindless, therapeutic work of digging in the soil.
Well, it’s been a pretty busy month, and this weekend was no different. I had a listing go into contract mid-week so we needed to find them a new home. We’re working a contract this weekend for them as well as viewing some back-ups. My out-of-state buyers didn’t find the perfect home when they were last here, so I previewed a couple more for them that they selected to view when they return after the holiday. Then I held an open house Saturday on another listing. It was a good one with some buyers coming as a result of advertising the open on my web site. Two are very interested in that home.
I wasn’t the only agent working, however. Every time I had to call another agent, they were busy working as well. We all joked that “having-to-work-on-holiday-weekends” is why “we make the big bucks“.So while others are enjoying the holiday with their families, I’m hustling my b*tt trying to give my clients great service and perform my “time is of the essence” fiduciary duty.
I just hope my flats of flowers will tolerate a few more days of abandonment. My kids would be very surprised to hear me say this, but I need a “rent-a-husband” to do my honey-do list. I’m not doing a very good job of cleaning out the job jar.
And The Murph is no help AT ALL!
Let’s see, July 4 isn’t that far away … maybe I’ll be able to take that day off.
