Central Ohio school help for relocating Buyers

November 4, 2006 · No Comments

school busWhen relocating buyers contact me regarding their upcoming move to the central Ohio area, they often mention they are interested in locating in a specific school district. Usually, someone has told them about a certain district or they’ve determined the district is closest to their new employment.

One problem we have here in the central Ohio area is that people think we should be “cheaper” than we are. (I think it must be due to a perception that we’re just a bunch of midwesterners living in soybean fields). Well, the suburbs around Columbus are high-growth areas, and as such, many homes cost well over $200,000!

Some years ago, I added several sections to my web site  to assist relocating buyers in becoming familiar with the central
Ohio market. Since I compiled the info, most of it is not available elsewhere on the internet. If you’re a relocating buyer, you may find the following sites helpful.

  • An Overview Map of the Greater Columbus Metro area, showing the relationship of suburbs around the city of
Columbus. From the Overview map, you can go to info on each of the suburbs to learn which schools districts are there, which zip codes, and what the major subdivisions or golf communities are.
  • Average Home Sales by School District is updated at the end of each month, and will give you an idea of the price you might expect to pay for a home in the given district. This page also shows the averages for surrounding counties.
  • Local School Districts is a list of the districts with links to the school’s web site so you can more easily compare them.
